In 1988, with only $2 to his name, William Post pawned a $40 ring and put the money in the Pennsylvania state lottery tickets. He won $16.2 million.

William Post fortune did not last long and he was soon living on $450 per month dole. Also, his greedy brother had hired a hitman to kill him.
