The first web browser for the Windows operating system was Cello. It was developed by Thomas R. Bruce and released 2 years before Internet Explorer came into existence.

Like most things, Cello was born out of a need. Thomas Bruce who was at the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School knew that most lawyers used Windows based computers and there was not a single web browser that ran on that operating system. He released cello as a shareware on June 8, 1993.
