Using fake products, imitations of designer sunglasses or bags, makes you less honest.
The study was carried out by Dan Ariely and his colleagues. Half of the participants were told they were wearing fake Chloe sunglasses while the other half were informed that the sunglasses were original. (Actually all the products were genuine.)
They found that people who wore the “fake” sunglasses for a few minutes cheated way more than others on an “honesty” test. Somehow the counterfeit products changed how people view themselves!
