Earmuffs were invented by Chester Greenwood who, at the age of 15, received a patent for them on March 13, 1877.

Earmuffs, like many other great inventions, were born out of a need. Chester Greenwood had gone ice skating and had felt so cold that he asked his grandmother to sew tuffs of fur between loops of wire.
